ENVIRONMENT

Our commitment to the environment and regulatory responsibilities means that we conduct our work with a focus on mitigating our impacts on the environment around us.

At KBL, protecting and restoring the environment is the core of our business. This begins with an understanding of the environment and regulatory framework for all the jurisdictions we work in. KBL is building a waste facility network with a focus on recycling with the end goal of conserving natural resources and promoting circular economies.

By investing in the development of innovation & technology our goal is to be the leader in reducing greenhouse gases in the waste management and site restoration processes.

We are continually improving our processes and strategies to ensure compliance excellence in everything we do. KBL uses a Facility Compliance Management System to ensure our compliance meets and exceeds relevant laws and regulations. Our compliance program includes:

  • Ensuring that our people and clients are educated in the requirements and regulations that pertain to the work we do.
  • Keeping updated on changes to federal, territorial, and provincial regulations and providing updates on a regular basis to our people on changes that will impact our work.
  • Inspections of our facilities and projects to ensure that work and activities are completed in compliance with the regulations that govern what we do.

As we continue to grow and develop our internal sustainability program, KBL has decided to align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs).

In 2015, the UN approved 17 SDGs which recognize “that ending poverty and other deprivations much go hand-in-hand with strategies that improve health and education, reduce inequality, and spur economic growth – all while tackling climate change and working to preserve our oceans and forests”.

KBL believes that by aligning with the UN SDGs we can work towards making substantial contributions to solving some of the challenges that face our society.

We have identified 5 of the 17 goals that KBL can directly impact through our operations:

“Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss” KBL believes that by developing a sustainability program that measures and reports on the relevant risks and opportunities will best reflect our corporate strategy to help our clients and our operations achieve their environmental goals.

KBL is committed to building and maintaining strong partnerships with the communities in which we live and work; we recognize and value our relationships with neighbours, land users, and the community. 

Building and maintaining strong partnerships with the communities that we operate in is a key component to the success of KBL. This includes community and stakeholder engagement, sponsoring community events, and addressing and acting with project-related concerns. We want to ensure that our practices are economically sustainable as well as create positive social change.

KBL believes in giving back to our communities and continues to partner with causes that align with KBL values. By thinking globally and acting locally within our communities we are able to work towards making a difference in the lives of the communities we work in. We believe that the benefits to the communities that we operate in should last longer than the life of our facilities or projects. Our people live in these communities and we want them to be proud of the work they do there.
