PROJECT PROFILE
KBL was retained by Jacob Bros for water treatment at St. Paul’s Hospital which involved addressing total suspended solids (TSS), pH, and total metals from a well point to meet sanitary discharge standards. This includes sediment control for stormwater and excavation water from construction sites, with pH adjustment integrated into the system. The operation utilizes a 100 GPM compact containerized enhanced sediment filtration (CESF) system, equipped with bag filtration, carbon filtration, sand filtration, and external poly tanks to ensure effective sediment management.
SCOPE OF WORK
The history of subsurface of contamination at this site resulted in the groundwater containing high levels of metal contamination. KBL’s system used the natural polymer, chitosan, to initially remove the high sediment load from the water, followed by activated carbon to absorb and remove the remaining metals. Frequent carbon changeouts were required on this project to maintain clean discharge water.
PROJECT SUCCESS
This system was responsible for dewatering an entire utility excavation, which was a critical for the client. Even with this added pressure, KBL consistently treated the water to the discharge requirements, all while maintaining sufficient flow for the general contractor.
