PROJECT PROFILE
Our company was retained by Cenovus Energy to execute this remediation scope at the Cenovus Bruderheim Energy Terminal in 2023. We were appointed for our vast experience and knowledge in the field of industrial and residential remediation, reclamation, and decommissioning projects throughout Western Canada. Our company owns a vast array of heavy equipment, making it one of the leading environmental contractors in Western and Northern Canada.
SCOPE OF WORK
- Excavation, transportation, and disposal of 4,985.48 tonnes of Class II contaminated soil, which was transported to and disposed of at the Claystone Landfill in Ryley, AB.
- Removal, processing, transportation, and disposal of 128.84 tonnes of perchloratecontaminated concrete piles. These materials were also hauled to and disposed of at the Claystone Landfill in Ryley, AB.
- Backfilling the excavation site with on-site stockpiled materials at the BETL. The backfill was compacted using excavator tracks, with the area crowned to allow settling and natural compaction through freeze-thaw cycles.
PROJECT SUCCESS
This project was completed with minimal supervision from Cenovus and did not require the consultant to be on-site full-time. Instead, the consultant was scheduled to collect confirmatory samples after each area was remediated, resulting in overall cost savings for the project.
Also, by utilizing internal resources, including KBL Logistics for trucking and the KBL preferred disposal rate from the landfill facility, KBL was able to achieve significant cost savings at the end of the project.
